Hey there!

I'm Sydney

I’m the photographer and traveler behind A Photographer’s Odyssey. I’m based out of Virginia where I run my wedding and portrait photography business, but I’m always ready to hit the road and car camp or buy a plane ticket somewhere new. This blog is where I share my experiences and tips so you can plan your next great adventure too.

My biggest goal is to live a life of freedom and adventure. I started my own photography business when I was 16, and by the time I graduated college with a Virginia high school English teaching license, it gave me the freedom to walk away from the 9-5 life and work for myself. I started a small Virginia-travel section of my business and soon decided to start my own travel blog.

After I graduated with my masters, I lived in my car for three months and traveled all around Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. I visited all 41 Virginia State Parks, drove all 105 miles of Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park and all 469 miles of Blue Ridge Parkway, explored Great Smoky Mountain National Park, and so much more. I hiked dozens of miles and took thousands of pictures, and for the first time I felt the true freedom of travel.

Since then, I’ve been unable to stop. I’m constantly planning international trips and car-camping adventures in the US, and I’m more than excited to share my adventures with others. I want to tell you which hikes are best on Blue Ridge Parkway, what things you need when you sleep in your car, and which cities in Europe to go to. I want to help you to take better pictures of yourself and your travels. More than anything, I want to help you get out there and have some awesome adventures.
